Snow... Err... Precipitation Days

As a boy I always hoped for a day or two off of school in the middle of winter for the snow that fell. Those were the coveted "Snow Days"--days off of school because the amount of snow that fell made is difficult to get to school.

Here in Ecuador, we have experienced "Political Protest Days" or "Transportation Strike Days", but today we had a "Snow... Err... Precipitation Day" and will have another one tomorrow. Ecuador, as you may have heard in the news has had an inordinate amount of rain this year and, because of this the coastal plains are flooded and here in the mountains we today had a Precipitation Day where the schools were closed throughout Quito because of transportation problems caused by road conditions.

If you don't know, Quito is a long and thin city built up in a valley between the mountains. Right about in the middle separating the north end from the south, there aren't many roadways through. Yesterday afternoon, one of the roadways built over a landfill had a sinkhole appear and take out half the road. One of the other main north-south arteries goes through tunnels that were flooded. The other main north-south artery had problems with mudslides blocking parts of the road. So, we had a Precipitation Day today and will have another one tomorrow.

Here is a video showing the sinkhole:

As I mentioned, the coastal plains have been flooded and the people there are in need of relief help. We, as HCJB Global, have been helping collect donations, helping pass out relief items and provided medical assistance. To date we have been able to reach about 10,000 people with the gospel in this way, pass out about 2,500 emergency food packages to families, and reach a good number (I can't recall the number) of people with medical needs. We are able to take along local Ecuadorian believers to help out and help give them a vision for reaching others. Here's another video on the work:

P.S. I noticed that I hadn't published a couple of drafts about other news the past month or two. I'll get to that in the next couple of days. Please keep us in your prayers as we shine God's light around Ecuador.
